Summer Vibes Means Sunkissed & Centered: 5 Ways to Nourish Your Summer Glow
Summer is officially in full swing, bringing with it long, golden afternoons, the urge to be near the water, and an undeniable shift in our collective energy. While spring was all about planting seeds and waking up, summer vibes are about expression, play, and abundance.
But with all the backyard barbecues, outdoor adventures, and travel plans, it’s easy to let your wellness routine drift out to sea.
If you're feeling a bit run-ragged from the summer heat and high-energy pace, here is how you can stay grounded, hydrated, and vibrant all season long.
1. Drink Your Water (And Eat It, Too)
Staying hydrated in the summer heat is a given, but you don't have to rely solely on your water bottle. Nature practically hand-delivers hydration during the warmer months through seasonal produce.
Load up on water-rich foods: Watermelon, cucumbers, strawberries, peaches, and celery are packed with vitamins and natural electrolytes.
Elevate your H2O: Infuse your water pitching with fresh mint, basil, lemon slices, or cucumber to make hydration feel like a spa ritual.
2. Practice "Green Exercising"
Take your movement practice out of the four walls of a gym or studio and head into nature. Exercising outdoors—whether it’s a morning walk, a lakeside yoga flow, or a hike through the trees—has been shown to lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels much faster than indoor workouts.
The Golden Hour Rule: To avoid the midday heat, aim for early morning or late evening movement when the air is cool and the light is soft.
3. Take a "Digital Siesta"
With the sun setting later, it's tempting to stay plugged in and active around the clock. Give your nervous system a break by scheduling a daily or weekly digital sunset.
Turn off your screens an hour before bed.
Instead of scrolling, spend that time sitting outside listening to the evening birds, reading a physical book, or simply watching the stars.
4. Cool Down Your Soundscape
Summer energy is loud, bright, and fast-paced. To balance out all that external stimulation, deliberately invite calm into your auditory space.
Create a relaxation playlist: Swap the high-tempo summer anthems for soothing ambient tracks, soft acoustic sounds, or nature soundscapes.
Practice active listening: Spend five minutes sitting quietly outside, focusing entirely on the furthest sound you can hear, then the closest. It’s an instant reset for an overstimulated mind.
5. Shift from "Doing" to "Being"
Summer invites us to play, but it also carries the ancient energy of the afternoon siesta. Give yourself permission to do absolutely nothing for a little while. Lie on a blanket in the grass, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin (with sunscreen on, of course!), and just breathe. Nourishment isn't just about what you eat; it’s about how you rest.
How are you keeping your balance this summer? Take a deep breath, grab a cold drink, and let the warmth of the season remind you to slow down and enjoy the flow.
